Obtaining your NJ concealed carry permit

  1. Take and successfully pass the 6-hour New Jersey CCW training. We offer that for $175–$225.
  2. New Jersey Mental Health Checklist

Complete the New Jersey Mental Health Checklist, part 1, if you have not resided in New Jersey for the last ten (10) years. This form must be witnessed and signed by someone other than the applicant; however, it does not have to be notarized. It must also list your addresses for the last ten years.
  3. Online Application

The applicant (residing out of state) must complete the online application at njportal.com. Do not start this online application until you are ready to submit the application fee of $205, as the system will not save your progress.
  4. Upload Documents

You will need to upload the completed New Jersey Mental Health Checklist, your Certificate of Completion (provided by the instructor), and the New Jersey Permit to Carry Form, signed by you and your instructor. Out-of-state residents do not need to complete the SBI # on the form. Lastly, the applicant must also upload the NRA instructor certificate that their instructor is required to provide.
  5. Applicant and Reference Information

You will need to provide relevant personal information (like name, address, birthdate, etc.). You will also be required to provide contact information for four references whom the applicant cannot be related to and whom the applicant must have known for more than two years.
  6. Reference Questionnaire

These references will receive an email questionnaire within minutes after the applicant successfully completes their application and tenders the required payment.
  7. Fingerprinting

After paying the application fee, the applicant will receive an email receipt that will provide a link to schedule their fingerprinting. Follow this link to complete the application. There will be several locations to choose from.
  8. Service and Case Numbers

Pay attention to the email as you will need to provide the Service Code Number as well as the Contributor Case Number.
  9. Application Processing

After you submit your fingerprints, the State Police Barracks your application is assigned to will start to process your application.
