Obtaining your DC concealed carry permit

  1. Enroll and successfully complete the required 16-hour DC training.  We offer that class for $325 or you can add it onto the MD class for an additional fee
  2. Either complete the paper application and the firearm registration form or complete these tasks through the Washington DC concealed carry portal located at https://mpdc.dc.gov/firearms
  3. Schedule an in-person appointment through the same portal.  Tri-State Training, LLC strongly encourages all applicants to complete as many of the steps as possible through the on-line portal.  This will cut down on the time they spend in DC.
  4. On the day of your appointment you will need your certificate of completion from class, the DC Concealed Carry Pistol License Course(s) Completion Certificate.  This form must be completed by the DC Certified Firearms Instructor.
  5. You will also need your State’s concealed carry permit, your driver’s license and a second form of residency.  This second form of residency can be a utility bill, lease or deed, auto insurance mailed to the applicant’s address, voter registration card, W-2 or another IRS brochure that shows the applicant’s address or a vehicle registration.
  6. The applicant will then need to report to 441 4th Street, NW 5th floor Washington, DC 20001 for their appointment.
  7. If the student is traveling from Hagerstown, MD or Martinsburg, WV area it is easiest to travel to the Shady Grove Metro and catch the red line to Judiciary Square.  Exit the Metro, walk up the stairs, look to their immediate left and they will see mustard color doors.  This is the entrance to the building.
  8. Walk in the building, sign in, and clear the metal detector.  Very important **DO NOT HAVE ANY GUNS OR KNIVES WITH YOU** as they will be confiscated and you WILL NOT get them back.
  9. After clearing the metal detector, walk to your right about 30 yards, turn to your left and take the elevator to the 5th floor.
  10. Once you get to the 5th floor go to lanes 5 or 6, Firearms Registration.
  11. The person behind the counter will start your application process.
  12. You will then be required to pay at the kiosk, $75 for the registration, $35 for fingerprints and $13 for every gun that you are registering over 1.  The first gun is free.
  13. After paying your fee, take the receipt back to the window where you came from and they will finish your application
  14. Then they will direct you to the window #1 where the representative will review your information before taking you to the fingerprint room.
  15.   While you are in the fingerprint room they will take your fingerprints as well as your picture then send you on your way.
  16.  Walk out of the building, down the steps to the Metro, catch the Red Line to Shady Grove, get in your vehicle and head home.  Parking is $5.20, payable when you leave the parking lot, and can only be paid by credit or debit card.
